TAL Advances Youth Participation In Electoral Processes

Transparency & Accountability Lab (TAL) was honoured to participate in the Multi-Stakeholder Engagement on Youth and Elections Training held in Lusaka on 22nd June 2026, represented by our Programmes Lead.

Organised by the European Platform for Democratic Elections (EPDE), the engagement provided an important platform for learning, collaboration and knowledge exchange on strengthening youth participation in electoral processes, civic engagement and democratic governance.

Through interactions with fellow civil society actors and election practitioners, participants explored practical and innovative approaches to promoting informed, meaningful and inclusive youth participation in Zambia’s democratic processes.

For TAL, youth participation in elections goes beyond voter registration and turning up at polling stations. It also means empowering young people to understand electoral processes, engage with political and governance institutions, demand accountability and actively contribute to shaping the country’s democratic future.

As we work to activate youth voices for accountability, TAL remains committed to promoting inclusive citizen participation and ensuring that young people are recognised not merely as voters, but as active stakeholders in democratic governance.

A stronger democracy requires more than young voters; it requires informed, engaged and empowered young citizens.
